A family source confirmed that the abductors freed their victims near Egba village along the Adumagba-Akure express road, after collecting ransom.
Wife of former Speaker of Edo State House of Assembly, Hon. Zakawanu Garuba, Hassana, who was kidnapped last Tuesday, regained freedom last Saturday.
Hassana, a Chief Magistrate with the Edo state judiciary, was freed by the kidnappers with three other victims, including two medical doctors who were randomly taken from a commercial bus the same day she was taken. While the Magistrate and the two doctors were abducted along the Benin-Auchi road after the kidnappers shot her police orderly simply identified as Marcus, the fourth victim was a farmer who unknowingly ran into the kidnappers in the forest and was tied to a tree. A source close to the Magistrate who did not want to be named, confirmed that the kidnappers freed their victims near Egba village along the Adumagba-Akure express road, after collecting ransom. The source said the kidnappers told the victims to walk through a particular route inside the forest until they got to the road from where they took motorcycle rides to Egba junction along the Benin-Auchi road. The Magistrate was received in good condition by her family members at about 4.pm on Saturday. A relative of the Magistrate said the kidnappers made their victims trekked through the forest and only rest for few hours before they released their victims.
When contacted on phone, Edo police command spokesman, DSP Abiodun Osifo, who confirmed the release of the kidnap victims, said: “all our effort paid off.” Meanwhile, the three girls Timilehin Olosa, Tofunmi Popoolaniyan and Deborah Akinayo that were kidnapped by gunmen on February 29 in Lagos state have been released. The girls were taken from their school, BMJS which is a co-educational secondary institution of the Lagos Anglican Diocese.
