The Taiwan police have held in custody a man suspected of decapitating a four-year-old girl with a cleaver in a random attack on Monday.
The incident which occurred near a Metro Station in the Neihu District of Taipei, Taiwan, is said to be the latest in a string of random attacks and the third against children in Taiwan in the past four years.
According to CNN, the 33-year-old suspect named Wang who is said to have a history of mental health and drug problems, grabbed the young girl from her bicycle before using the cleaver on her in front of her mother who tried to prevent him.
“I saw the suspect slashing my daughter with a cleaver. I immediately grabbed him but I could not pull him away,” the mother said.
An angry mob gathered around the police station where the man was detained, with some carrying baseball bats, to beat him up even as officers escorted him from the building.
