Horror as London bus bursts into flames


A double decker bus went up in flames in a suspected arson attack in London yesterday afternoon.

Footage of the number 208 well alight in Lewisham has been shared on social media, showing flames roaring from the top deck.


A huge plume of black smoke is seen rising high into the sky.

Firefighters were called to Loampit Vale just after 6pm and had the fire under control within 20 minutes.

There were no reports of any injuries.


Police in Lewisham later tweeted that the fire was being treated as arson.

The force said: "Although it looked dramatic, it was a simple fire...and is being dealt with as a suspected arson."

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: "Police were called at 18:05hrs on Friday, 25 March, to a Route 208 bus on fire in Loampit Vale, Lewisham.

"There are no reported injuries. This incident is being treated as arson.

Enquiries are underway to trace the suspect who is a described as a black male aged 13-15 years.

"He was last seen wearing a big baggy sweat shirt, baggy trousers both of which were dark coloured and a fisherman style hat."
