Taylor Swift To be Given the first ever Taylor Swift award at ceremony as she makes history

Taylor Swift is set to make history at the BMI Pop Awards with a prize named after herself.

It has been announced that the singer will accept the honour at the ceremony next month - it's not like anyone else could been given it.

The imaginatively titled Taylor Swift Award makes this only the second time the has presented someone a gong in their name, following Michael Jackson 's triumph in 1990.

Broadcast Music, Inc.'s Barbara Cane said: "Taylor Swift has transformed pop culture through her songs, artistry and indomitable spirit.

"She has had a profound impact, not only musically, but also through her personal conviction and commitment to create a standard that values and respects music for everyone.

"We felt it appropriate to award Taylor with an honour that is as unique and special as she is."

Naturally, the Blank Space superstar is no stranger to the glory of award shows - in just the first three months of 2016 alone she has taken home nine prizes, including a Grammy.

Perhaps the most unique was her NME 'middle finger' trophy for Best International Solo Artist - and she wasn't sure how to react.

After saying thank you, she said: "I got the award in the mail. I gotta be honest with you, when you first open the box this feels a little aggressive. But then you get used to it, you put it on the shelf.

"You’re like, I kinda like it, it’s kinda lol. But I’m just saying at first impressions, it’s a little weird, but now I understand it. It’s a strange compliment, you’re being cheeky about it.”
