Rest now Caitie, no more wires, no more pokes, no more tears" A father shares daughter's heartbreaking moment
On Thursday, March 31, three year old Caitlin Soleil Lucas passed away in her father's arms after a three months brave battle with juvenile myelomonocytic Leukemia.
"Rest now Caitie. No more wires. No more pokes. No more pains. #CourageousCaitie" the father captioned a photo of her dead body in his arms and kissing her cold forehead.
All through her hospital stay, her parents, Jay Jay and Feliz Lucas, a husband and wife team behind the wedding photography company Chestknots Studios and Lifestyle by Feliz, shared her photos on Instagram and Facebook and eventualy her heartbreaking last moment.
She became known as "Courageous Caitie" due to her strong and positive attitude even as she battle the ailment that ravaged her body. Within a few days, the online buzz translated into fundraisers, prayer sessions, and a reason for people to unite and be inspired.
Caitie was cremated and laid to rest on Sunday, April 3 in a wedding-themed memorial service at the Memorial Hall in Quezon city among family and friends. Catie wore a pink dress designed by Velus Brides.
Her parents said in a Facebook post that they are handing their daughter to Jesus in marriage:
"We are giving away our daughternto the ultimate lover of souls. I love my daughter...Today we celebrate as we turn you over in marriage," the post reads.
Caitie was first diagnosed last January when her parents spotted rashes on her body, which were initially thought to be insect bites.
The first diagnosis was tuberculosis, prompting her to undergona series of medication for lung disease. However, her condition worsened. The family then flew to Singapore where doctors said she has a rare type of cancer.
