MESUT OZIL On What He thinks of His time at Arsenal so far

Ozil has gone from strength to strength playing under Arsene Wenger, but admits that he struggled during his early days in north London.

“In my first year, it was not easy, getting used to it in the new league and the new environment,” he told German publication Spox.

“The transfer to Arsenal took place very late, the preparation was already well advanced. The following year I was injured for the first time in my career.

“Whereby maybe that was also important for my development. After the injury, I decided to switch some things and to do things differently.

“Now comes together everything positive I could first complete all the preparation with the team and make the most of it, that I have changed a lot.

“I since feel much better and I have a lot of fun playing football.”

Ozil’s injuries at Arsenal have prompted him to take precautions when training that has even seen him make changes to his diet.

“During my injury I realised how much I miss football and I wanted to avoid at all costs,” he added.

“That's why I changed my diet. I used to allow myself a Coke, now I drink a lot more water.

“I eat today significantly less bread than even a few years ago. And I'm much more in the weight room, I put on muscle mass and feel in top shape. A good fitness also prevents injuries.”
