Universal confirmed the eighth installment for their juggernaut Fast & Furious
franchise at CinemaCon in Las
Vegas on Thursday. Actor Vin Diesel made the announcement during the panel held at Caesar’s Palace, issuing April
14, 2017 as the release date.

“It means a lot to me to get your blessing.” Vin told the exhibitors as he held back
tears, according to Variety.
“We were giddy and excited. You all gave me so much confidence. There was so much love.”

The franchise’s continuation
with an eighth installment
was in question after the untimely death of one their keystone actors Paul Walker ,
who passed away due to a fiery single-car accident in Valencia, California in 2013.

“I know that Paul had said that eight is a guarantee,” Vin
told On Air with Ryan Seacrest in March. “There are moments
when I think that a brother’s promise — you kind of have to live up to your brother’s promise.
It’s heavy. For me, it’s really important to get to this
weekend and to hear the response of the world.”

Furious 7 has become the seventh highest-grossing film
of all time, collecting over $1.15 billion at the worldwide
box office. The movie also broke records in China and became the highest- grossing
opening week for any film in
their box office history with $
250 million.
